What is mixed martial arts?

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a competitive full combat fighting sport open to fighters of multiple and various martial arts fighting styles. Matches are usually fought in a cage or boxing-style ring. Rules are very minimal, allowing for a wide range of fighting styles. Fighting is full-contact, typically with minimal protection, most commonly only MMA-style, lightly-padded finger-less gloves are used.

In recent decades, MMA has grown into a globally-recognized and celebrated sport. Compared to other popular sports, MMA arguably pushes its contenders to the edge of human endurance and ability.
